Visitors read Davie as a costume. The horse crossings on Griffin Road, the boots at the feed store, the arena downtown, they see a theme park version of Broward County and move on. Residents know the western motif is not decoration. It is a scheduling system.
Between August and mid-November, the town's calendar organizes itself around three things happening at once: a prix-fixe restaurant program run through Town Hall, a rodeo season that draws contestants from across the Southeast, and a run of new openings clustered on South University Drive. If you already live here, this is the stretch of the year when the local grid rewards you for staying home on weekends instead of driving east.
The Anchor: Rodeo Nights At Bergeron
The Weekley Brothers Davie Pro Rodeo runs a full 2026 slate at the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds, 4201 SW 65th Way. The remaining performance dates worth marking:
- September 12, 2026 at 7:30 p.m. — regular season performance
- November 13 and 14, 2026 at 7:30 p.m., plus November 15 at 2:00 p.m. — the RAM Southeast Circuit Finals
The November finals are the one to plan around. The three-performance championship carries a purse of more than $250,000 and is billed by the sanctioning body as the largest championship rodeo east of the Mississippi River, a claim that would be marketing language anywhere else but reads accurately against the PRCA circuit map. Contestants compete across bull riding, barrel racing, saddle bronc and bareback, steer wrestling, team roping, and tie-down.
The arena itself sits on 72,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space in the historic downtown district and hosts far more than rodeo. Concerts, horse and dog shows, monster trucks, and airboat exhibitions cycle through the same footprint. In 2020 the rodeo was named the best in North America by USA Today readers, which is why the November finals sell better than a typical regional event and why residents who wait until Friday to look at tickets are usually looking at the last row.
Savor Davie, Read As A Menu
From August 1 through September 15, 2026, the Town runs Savor Davie, a fixed-price dining promotion designed to push traffic to independent operators during the slowest weeks of the retail year. Seven restaurants signed on. Each offers a three-course prix-fixe at a single price, no upcharges beyond tax, gratuity, and drinks.

The other four participating restaurants rotate through the Town's Savor Davie page at davie-fl.gov. The economic point residents miss: a $35 three-course at Geronimos undercuts the average à la carte check at most Davie sit-down rooms by five to ten dollars, and the $45 tier at Black Jack's or The Greek Joint puts a three-course dinner at the same price a Weston or Fort Lauderdale kitchen would charge for two courses. If you eat out twice a week during the window, the program is not a novelty. It is a rebate.
Golf Vault, The Summer's Actual New Opening
The most talked-about opening of the summer is not a restaurant. It is Golf Vault, a roughly 4,000-square-foot golf simulator lounge from Chris Flores and Gil Martin, targeting a late-June or July 1, 2026 opening at 4900 South University Drive, Suite 205, on the second floor above Pinza 104.
Two things make this worth attention. First, the address puts it squarely inside the South University corridor that already carries Tap 42, Fat Stork, and Burtons Grill & Bar within a short drive, which turns a simulator session into a dinner-and-bay night rather than a standalone stop. Second, it is locally owned rather than a franchise import, which matters for how the room actually operates: local hours, local staff, and a food and drink menu built for South Florida rather than shipped in from a corporate deck.
There is a wider signal too. The Restaurant Store, the Pennsylvania-based foodservice equipment retailer, opened its third Florida location in Davie in late 2025 at 2750 Bridge Way, Suite 120, a 47,000-square-foot outpost just off I-595 and the Turnpike. When a wholesale supplier picks Davie for its South Florida beachhead, it is reading the same tea leaves you are: the restaurant density along University and Griffin is thick enough now to sustain a supplier that used to require a drive to Orlando or Jacksonville.
Daytime, In Order Of Shade
The heat index in August rewards a specific order of operations.
Start early at Tree Tops Park off Nob Hill Road, where the boardwalk canopy holds temperature down through mid-morning. Move by 10 a.m. to Long Key Natural Area and Nature Center, where the interior trails stay usable later into the day than the open shorelines at Vista View. From there, Flamingo Gardens on Flamingo Road handles the middle of the day under mature tree cover, with the wildlife encounters and the botanical loop both indoor-adjacent enough to survive a summer rainstorm.
Save the Old Davie School Historical Museum at 6650 Griffin Road for a late-afternoon walk-through. The building is the oldest surviving schoolhouse in Broward County and doubles as the Town's Orange Blossom Festival hub each February. Reading the exhibits in July gives you the context you will want in February when the 90th Annual Orange Blossom Parade closes Griffin. Marando Farms and Ranch is the last stop of a Saturday, useful for produce and animal encounters and specifically the kind of place that turns a routine grocery run into an hour outdoors. Buehler Planetarium on the Broward College campus handles a rainy Saturday night when the rodeo is dark.
The Bench, For Nights Off The Program
Not every dinner needs to be prix-fixe. The strongest independent kitchens on the current Davie bench:
Lai Rai is the Vietnamese street-food room that opened to full seats on day two and stayed there, built for shared plates and a beer tower rather than a formal dinner. Tap 42 Davie and Burtons Grill & Bar cover the elevated-American slot with reliable rooms and enough seating capacity to handle a walk-in on a Friday. Fat Stork has become the neighborhood's default upscale-casual pick. Francisca Charcoal Chicken & Meats covers a South American grill craving on a weeknight. Tijuana Taxi Co. on the west side handles the family Mexican slot without a reservation.
The dining stack matters for one specific reason. In most Broward suburbs, the tradeoff for a quieter street and a bigger lot is a longer drive to a real dinner. Davie's University corridor has closed that gap. The distance from a home in the ranches west of Flamingo to a bay at Golf Vault or a table at Lai Rai is measured in minutes, not the twenty-plus it would take from a comparable lot in Southwest Ranches proper or the west end of Cooper City.
What Cowboy Town Actually Buys You
The through-line across all of this is not the western costume. It is the operating tempo. A town that runs a professional rodeo circuit, subsidizes a two-month prix-fixe program through Town Hall, and lets a locally owned simulator lounge open above a pizza shop on University is a town where the commercial fabric still bends toward independent operators and community-scheduled events. That is not the default in Broward. It is a specific choice Davie has made and kept making since the 1980s, when Five Star Rodeo first lit up the downtown arena.
For residents, the practical takeaway is the calendar itself. Block September 12 for the rodeo, run your dining budget through Savor Davie between August 1 and September 15, and file November 13 through 15 for the RAM finals. The rest of the weekend, from the Tree Tops boardwalk to a nightcap at Black Jack's, sorts itself out.
